TURNING TO HASHEM

Life is filled with ups and downs, joy and pain, laughter and sorrow. Often in the darkest moments we feel alone and don't know what to do or who to turn to for help. The above poem and painting were written and created after I was experiencing pain from an illness that doctor's were unable to treat. For those who find the words above difficult to read, here they are once more:

When things get tough
And you are in despair
Turn to Hashem
In Love and Fear
Don't give up hope
For He'll be there
Ready and waiting
Your pain to spare
(Shoshanah Rabinovitch 1995)

If you look at the painting above, the circular motion can be viewed either as a foetus in the womb, the profile of a face or an ear. Each of these obviously have significance.

The foetus in the womb is nurtured by it's mother and sustained, grows and progresses thanks to G-d's constantly directing it. It is also taught the Torah while in the womb.

The profile is significant of the person turning to G-d and seeking help.

The ear is significant as a reminder to us to listen to our inner voice. Our intuition through which G-d Guides us by sending a thought, idea or the sudden realization of what to do or who to talk to.

For each of these symbols, the idea is the same. Yes we all have moments when we don't know what to do next. How to manage through the moment of pain. Where will our salvation come from? And so the poem remind's us to always, always remember that G-d is the one who saves us. G-d has all the resources and all we have to do is to turn to Him.

May it be G-d's will that all your sorrow be transformed into joy. All your hardships dissolve into opportunities for growth. All your obstacles change into springboards to send you to the most wonderful time, space and people that you might not have been able to imagine were it not for whatever the obstacle you experienced.
