Words of Prayer, Words of Kindness - 18

This weeks Words of Prayer, Words of Kindness
is prepared in the merit of Hatzlachah and Brachah for all those who have supported Chessed Ve'Emet during their stay in South Africa

Thought for Guarding our Tongues and Ahavas Yisrael

One of the negative commandments states that we are not to shame our fellow-man. As it states in Vayikra 19:17 "You shall not bear sin because of him". Our sages teach that anyone who shames his fellow in public is not deserving of a place in the World to Come. (Talmud Bavli, Bava Metzia 59a). This mitzvah is in regards to actions and speech between man and his fellow-man. If anyone does something to upset another or that s/he dislikes etc, we are forbidden to say something, including through body language or by calling him/her names that they dislike in public.

In the event that someone does something against G-d, this is a different situation with different Hallachot in place.

The seriousness of this mitzvah shows us how careful we need to be with our speech whether written, spoken or body-language so that we are very careful not to cause shame or embarrassment to our fellow.

Bitachon Thought

In the book "The Concise Book of Mitzvot" By the Chofetz Chaim the first 7 commandments deal with our relationship with G-d. I thought it would be beneficial to go through each of these over the next few weeks in assisting us with improving Bitachon or Trust in G-d.

The first positive commandment is to believe that there is a G-d in existence. This means that not only is it beneficial to believe in or trust in G-d but it is actually one of the positive commandments. As it states in Sh'moth 20:2: "I am Hashem your G-d"

It is G-d who brought everything into being and is the One and Only G-d. As the Chofetz Chaim states we as Jews should affix in our heart and soul that this is the truth and there is nothing else but G-d.

Shabbat Shalom to everyone
