The Mitzvah of Assisting an Orphan

One of the projects we manage as part of the Torah Centre we are working on, is a very special Hachnasat Kallah aimed at strengthening needy orphan Chatanim and Kallot at the time of getting married. We have many ideas we are gradually working on. Along the way, many give negative feedback about helping orphans, but what does the Torah teach on this topic?

Let us begin by looking at the Shulchan Aruch. For our purposes we are going to look at the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch and we find in Chapter 29 section 19 some information regarding how to interact with an orphan. The Torah law states that one has to take great care with regards to both widows and orphans, to speak to them gently, to treat them with honour and not to cause them any pain. Even with ones words, one has to be careful as the orphan and the widow soul is downcast and their spirits are low.

This applies even if they are wealthy. We are even warned if those concerned are widow and orphan of a king, still we must treat them with special care and gentleness. The Torah warns not to cause pain to an orphan as if an orphan cries out to Hashem, Hashem will hear their call. (Exodus 22:21-2)

This applies whether one is orphaned from his father or his mother, it does not have to be both parents.

In the next post we will look at what kind of assistance one has to give an orphan and until what age is the community responsible to help someone who has lost a parent. In further posts we aim to look at the Torah teaching on the Mitzvah of Hachnast Kallah and in particular helping an orphan to marry and set up their own home.

Please do follow these posts and teachings and join us in developing our special Bayit Chadash Gemach. You can visit our website for more information or email us to get involved.

On a practical level, you can donate brand new items to be given to the needy orphan Chatanim and Kallot to begin their new home. You can purchase items from our Bayit Chadash Store,  or you can purchase a gift voucher for the orphan couples. You can also book one of our other services and a percentage goes to assist this Gemach.

Please visit our website to be in touch.

Join us in developing "Yibaneh Yerushalayim

A few months ago we began our magazine "Yibaneh Yerushalayim" - May Jerusalem be Rebuilt.

We have had some nice response and positive feedback. We are currently working on our next edition and wish to include some new features and many more articles. You can get a preview of one of the articles on the the post "How our emotions affect our relationships - by Azriel Winnett"

We have a brief video to explain something of the magazine and invite you to get involved.

We have identified our theme for our magazine and have some wonderful ideas and are excited about the progress. However, being a new magazine, advertisers want to see it will last and be effective before they are prepared to advertise with us. This puts us into a catch 22 situation. In addition, most who interview with us to sell adspace want a basic salary plus commission, until adspace starts selling properly, this is hard for us to do.

So we are appealing to you to assist us to progress in our magazine and our work. We ask you to visit our website, see the wonderful work we are doing and give our work a chance. You can book a service, purchase a gift or buy adsapce on our website or for our magazine. Since our magazine helps to spread Torah and Acts of Kindness, some Poskim say you can even use Maaser to pay for the advert.

If you have a service or product related to weddings in Israel and setting up a new home here, please email us for prices to purchase adspace in our next edition. If you know anyone who loves sales, please have them email us

What do you get out of it?

For $5 we will mail you a copy of our next edition.

For $18 we will mail you a copy of our next edition plus send you one of our stunning fridge magnets.

For $50 we will mail you a copy of our magazine plus the full set of 4 stunning fridge magnets.

For $100, we will send you a hand towel with a design from one of our photographs from flowers of Eretz Yisrael.

Larger donations are welcome too. More gift ideas to follow or email us for what you will receive in return.

In addition, every donor helps us to progress with "Yibaneh Yerushalayim" and through this to help with the job creation part of Chessed Ve'Emet.

If you would like to see more about this new publication, please visit our website

Shanah Tova UMetukah

As Rosh HaShanah approaches, many are concerned about whether they have enough merit or may wish to increase merit for themselves or a loved one. Two of the greatest ways to increase merit are through  Torah learning acts of kindness.

The Alter Rebbe stressed the importance of helping the needy in Eretz Yisrael, especially Torah scholars.

If you are busy in the week leading up to Rosh HaShanah, here's a beautiful opportunity for you. We have a number of Torah scholars in Yerushalayim, who need basics for their Yomim Tovim. We are offering a special arrangement for you to partner with a Torah scholar this Rosh HaShanah by partnering with him in a Yisachar Zevulun arrangement whereby he will learn on your behalf. Learning can be from Mishnayos, Hallachah, Gemorrah or Chassidus in your merit and all you need to do is pay for their time of learning. In this way, you give them the opportunity to learn in your merit and to gain the means to cover their Yom Tov needs. What a special Yisachar and Zevulum opportunity.

If you are interested, please email or visit our website.

Although we do not have a U.S. tax-deductible status, you can rest assured that your donation will be that much more valuable in Heaven where it really counts

Together may we merit the best Rosh HaShanah and Ketiva Ve'Chatima Tova for all of Am Yisrael.

Hachnasat Kallah - A Powerful Mitzvah

Shalom Friends

Are you looking for a beautiful way to help those orphaned as children? Did you consider the needs and heartache or difficulty for a Jew, orphaned as a child who now prepares for their upcoming wedding?
We have a special Bayit Chadash Gemach, focused on assisting needy orphan Chatanim and Kallot and we need your help. If orphan-charity is important to you, or helping to bring kindness into the world by strengthening those less fortunate than you are, then you have come to the right place.

We have been approached to assist with a young Chatan and a young Kallah. The Chatan was orphaned from his father 6 years ago and is coming to Chuppah, G-d willing on 19th Av. He is one of a family of 12 children and the mother needs assitance to help build his new home, his Bayit Chadash. We have letters of approbation for him from HaRav Eliyahu Aba Shaul of Or Letzion, Rav Ovadya Yosef of Tiferet Ohel Moshe and Rabbi Chaim Aahron Mondrer, Moreh Tzeddek of the Eida HaChareidis.

The Kallah was orphaned from her father 10 years ago and is comin gto Chuppah, G-d willing on 20th Av. We are still awaiting her letters of aprobation, however most of her wedding is being arranged by her older sister as their mother is not able to assist at all.

Both are in need of the basics for their new home. If anyone is able to make a monetary donation of Maaser or Tzeddakah, or to give any NEW items for their new home, please email us URGENTLY. There is not much time before the weddings. With the 9 days in between, it's a hard time for these young couples.

Thank you for your kindness

Mazal Tov! New Weddings - New Homes

This is a stunning gift donated to a new couple.

We have two new couples who have approached us. One is a Kallah who was orphaned at a young age from her father and is planning to get married at the beginning of Elul. The other is a Chatan, also orphaned as a child from his father and coming to Chuppah, G-d willing on 19th Av.

The three weeks are naturally a hard time for all of Am Yisrael. Imagine the added heartache of someone planning a wedding with no father to turn to for advice. No father to walk them to them to Chuppah. No father to give the traditional blessing of the father to the Kallah at the time of the Bedeken. No father to assist either with wedding expenses or more importantly with setting up the new home for the happy couple.

True, there are many who say just go and get a job, any job, even minimal wage. But a minimum wage job won't pay all the expenses for a wedding or for setting up a proper Kosher new home. Imagine all the things required to fulfill Mitzvos. Just the needs for the Shabbos table on its own amount to an expense more than these young Chatan and Kallah have to outlay for their own new home.

So we turn to you, the caring Yidden and ask for generous donations. You can donate from Maaser or Tzeddakah by purchasing a gift voucher for one of our orphans, purchasing a gift or donating of your services. You are also welcome to volunteer.  Remember, the Mitzvah of Hachnasat Kallah is big enough to be mentioned in the morning blessings to be amongst the Mitzvos too great for reward in this world. So please donate generously.

Thank you in advance for your kindness.

"Yibaneh Yerushalayim" - Our New Magazine

We have a New Free Wedding Magazine. It's very exciting, its already out and available. We have two editions out and are working on the third. At present, copies are free, though we are considering a new magazine subscription, possibly the subscription will be for receiving eMag or for receiving directly to your mail box.

Did you know that postage has a charge? No, well sure, there are costs for everything hence the potential of a subscription for those wanting a magazine each month directly in their mail boxes.

The developments are very exciting. We began distributing just in Jerusalem and already have expanded to Beitar Illit, Efrat, RBS and Modiin. We have options of possibly making this a new international magazine. We'd like to hear your thoughts.

What tips or ideas would you like to read about? What questions do you have that will help you to make your wedding in Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh?

We do need more service providers to advertise with us. If you have a service related to any of the following, please do be in touch:

Progress in our Campaign

We are excited to show a little more support for our latest project. The most recent donation was more than just 20 Shekels which gives us a nice jump forward. Do you notice the progress? We hope so. If you agree that we are still far from our goal, how about making a donation to help us reach the target.

You are welcome to look at our Bayit Chadash Gemach to see what this is all about. Our Launch edition of our magazine is being distributed. A slight rest in distribution during Pesach but next week we plan to be back in full swing. So if you would like a copy and live in Jerusalem, please be in touch to receive your free copy. If you live outside of Jerusalem and would like a copy, the magazine is free but we do ask for postage to be covered.
To continue with our magazine and to increase our work, we do need a new computer and necessary software. You can assist us in one of two ways.

If you have a service or product related to weddings in Israel and setting up a new home here, please email us for prices to purchase adspace in our next edition.

If you would like to see more about this new publication, please visit our website

Together we can ensure a beautiful publication and G-d willing even potential work or work experience for the Chatanim and Kallot that we assist.

A Campaign to Kick Start our New Project

Pesach is fast approaching and we received another donation. Do you see the progress. Yes, it is slight, so how about you help to increase that green at the bottom. We had a thought that if 1000 Yidden donate just 20 Shekels we can reach our target quite easily. Now 20 Shekels is not a lot to donate. Sad that the donations are coming so slowly.

What do you say? The project is an addition to our Bayit Chadash Project helping orphan Chatanim and Kallot. How about your assistance prior to Pesach? What will you do? Share the link to reach more potential donors? Make a donation of 20 Shekels or more? Take out an advert in our next edition.

Yes, "Yibane Yerushalayim" is now out and being distributed.

We have great plans for our next edition, but for this we have a target of 20 000 Israeli Shekels. Why? Good Yidden always want to know why. Well the answer is simple, firstly to recoup expenses from the first edition and secondly to obtain the software to do the graphics and layout ourselves.

If you have a service or product related to weddings in Israel and setting up a new home here, please email us for prices to purchase adspace in our next edition.

If you would like to see more about this new publication, please visit our website

We look forward to sharing future copies of our Magazine with you. Please help us to make this happen with a donation to KickStart this project. Together we can ensure a beautiful publication and G-d willing even potential work or work experience for the Chatanim and Kallot that we assist.

Marriage, Shidduchim and more

I was recently talking to a young mother who asked for guidance with her marriage. She has been maried for nearly 10 years and is struggling as she and her husband have nothing in common. The more we spoke the more I enquired why did you consider this Shidduch would work. Aside from his being Jewish and single and your being Jewish and single, what basis was there for the Shidduch? For this woman and women like her, the only route now is to work on the marriage and try to find something upon which to create common interests and Shalom Bayis.

If you find yourself in a situation like this, you can email Shoshanah for sessions to work on your role as wife and mother and together to set goals and action plans to help you make your marriage work.

Though intervention after marriage does work, we far prefer preventative measures and hence have a comprehensive Shidduch service. Our Structured interview is aimed to find out exactly who you are and who might be best suited to you as a life partner. If you don't know, not to worry, you can book a session or a few with either Shoshanah or Rabbi Eliyahu to discover what kind of home is ideal to you, your interests and personality.

Marriage is important and should be both rewarding and fulfiling. Book your session TODAY for:
- Shidduchim
- To work towards what your ideal marriage should be
- Torah learning regarding a Torah home
- Sessions to improve your role as Jewish wife and mother.

Email us for further info and to book your appointment.

For this we have a target of 20 000 Israeli Shekels. You can assist us in one of two ways.

We need Your Help to Progress!!

We have exciting developments for our Bayit Chadash Gemach. You may have already seen posts about this or messages on the newsgroups.  For those who have not yet heard, we are working on a small magazine that will be focused on the theme of our Gemach. It contains both articles and adverts related to those getting married and setting up a new home in Jerusalem.

In setting up our Launch Edition we quickly discovered that we have the skills to do the graphics and layout of this magazine and the amount we would spend on graphic design could be put to obtaining the software, thus enabling us to put those funds to better use and ensure the end product that we are striving for. We will therefore be able to do it ourselves in house and have more opportunity to have funds go to the Kallot we are assisting. Graphic Designers fees often suddenly add up, this way we can both ensure end product quality and keep the costs down.

To do this, we need your help.

Our Launch Edition is about to come out. We need to obtain a new computer, the Adobe Creative Suite which includes InDesign, a few books to learn the software and the printing costs for the first edition as we can only seriously begin selling adspace once we have a sample copy.

For this we have a target of 20 000 Israeli Shekels. You can assist us in one of two ways.

If you have a service or product related to weddings in Israel and setting up a new home here, please email us for prices to purchase adspace in our next edition.

Helping an Orphan Chatan - Slight Progress

We have a little progress for our latest couple - Olim Chadashim. The Chatan was orphaned from his father when a young teen. Over the period of 3 months he lost his father, uncle and grandfather. Things have not been easy for this young Chatan, but Baruch Hashem he is now in Eretz Yisrael and about to come to Chuppah.

His Kallah also has no family support and was sadly dis-owned by her parents.

The Chuppah is scheduled for Zayin Shvat 5772.

A few donations are trickling in, in potential anyway. They still need co-ordinating and to be gathered together before they reach the new couple.

The image on the left is of one of the Seforim that has already been given to the couple.

We still need a driver to drive the Kallah to her Chuppah.

We need donations for:
a new suit for the Chatan, new shirt for him for the Chuppah and a Shtender, Judaica and Seforim for their Bayit Chadash

We need some couples in Nachlaot / Sharei Chessed / Old City areas to host Sheva Brachos for them.

We don't have much time for this couple, so please donate generously and quickly.

If you have a store and can donate items from your Maaser or you make any household items and can donate an item, what better way to promote your business than by assisting to build up a new home. We need to know what items you will be donating to screen for appropriateness and quality. However, if you donate an item from your store, you can include a business card. Who knows, perhaps when they are more established they will come back to you with business.

Anyone who has a NEW item to donate towards their new home, please be in touch via our email
