Our Developing Bridal Gown Gemach

Yesterday I spoke to someone who runs a Bridal Gown Gemach in a different city. During the conversation, she mentioned that the prices for her bridal gown rental ranges from ₪1000 - ₪1900. She listened to my goal to offer lower prices for our bridal gown rental and a service to orphans of paying for the dry cleaning only. She thought it a nice idea but said with all the work and expenses involved, the only way this can be done is if we have a sponsor for each orphan Kallah's gown.

The time taken to help a Kallah to select her bridal gown is 1-2 hours and there are times a Kallah might select her gown, go through alterations etc and then disappear. Presumably having found something else although there are times too that a wedding gets cancelled. Still, time and expenses were incurred and somehow have to be covered.

This is one goal we have for the sale of household and other items. We invite you to come and visit our developing sale of items. A percentage of the price you pay goes towards helping to continue to grow our service helping orphans in a meaningful way. Currently, some of the items are on our FB page ready for sale. We are working towards being able to upgrade our website so as to activate the shipping calculator and other eCommerce features in order to have online sales happening too. Online sales will be for items that are easy to ship and not breakable. All other items are available from us in person.

Regarding our items for sale, we are busy researching the most appropriate type of store to develop this into. If you now of a good business consultant who is prepared to offer some guidance, we are on the look out for the right business consultant.

If you like what we are developing, there are a few other ways you can get involved. You can  sponsor the rental of a bridal gown for an orphan Kallah. Our bridal gown rental prices are currently at under ₪1000.

If you have sewing skills on a level to repair or alter bridal gowns and you live in or near Jerusalem, you can volunteer your time and expertise for bridal gown alternations. Some of our bridal gowns are in need of repairs before we start to show them to Kallot. We had someone who was going to assist but she is currently overseas.

Next on the agenda, will be a lovely slide show, being prepared as we type, to help you see why renting suitable space is so very important at this time.

Thank you to anyone interested in the very big Mitzvah of Hachnasat Kallah, especially for orphan brides in Jerusalem.

Have a very blessed day

Thinking About the Orphan Kallah

I was doing a search for ideas for a poster we have just designed regarding our bridal gowns and household items for rent and sale. There are such stunning images related to weddings. So much beauty. So much care. So much extravagance. And yet, the wedding business flourishes and couples the world over spend fortunes on their special day. On the one hand, why not?! It is a day that makes memories and begins the real unity for the start of a new home, the potential of a new family and continuity of another world.

One of the hardest things for someone who is an orphan especially and who comes from a poor home too, is this glamour and beauty is mostly not an option for them. It is not even a question of freedom of choice, lack of funds dictates that beauty and choice do not feature.

If one has a small wedding out of your own desire for a small wedding, that is your decision and you can then be happy with the special day. However, if your wedding is very small only due to others refusing to help you, then you are or can be left with sadness related to a day that should be the happiest of your life.

This is some of what the Mitzvah of Hachnasat Kallah is all about. Though some say just elope, or just get married at a Beth Din with two witnesses, Torah understands the heart of the Kallah who wants some beauty on her special day. A wedding can be beautiful on a budget too, however, the Kallah does need to have some freedom of choice. This is her special day not the communities and the Mitzvah is there to encourage the community to have compassion and help her to feel special.

Have you stopped to think about the needs of an orphan bride, an orphan Kallah? Are you able to recognize that she has just as much right to a beautiful, joyous day as you do? What are you prepared to do to help make her day special?

I'd love to hear your thoughts as we need your help to move our Bridal Gowns and household items to more suitable space. Are you willing to assist? Are you willing to host a sale, to book a service, to share a crowd fundraiser? If your answer is yes, please do be in touch.

Have a blessed day

Getting to Know You!

Getting to know our audience. A few days ago, someone challenged me to chat to someone in our audience during the week. It could be on FB, in a FB group, a reader to one of our blogs. The challenge sounded interesting so I began to make contact. So far I have messaged a few followers to our FB groups and invited them to chat on Skype for 5 minutes. I have posted in our FB groups inviting any of our members to chat with us for 5 minutes on Skype. So far we have not had anyone take us up on the offer.

This time I am taking it to one of our blogs and inviting any of the readers who follow this blog to be in touch. We'd love to get to know you better. We'd love to hear what kind of posts you enjoy, what you are looking for and just to get to know you a little more.

I would like to think that social networking has not totally robbed us of regular communication. What do you say? Are you interested in chatting for 5 min on Skype?

If you would like a theme to the conversation, then one question that is upper most on my mind is what area of Torah would you like to learn and what do you think about learning Torah online?

Looking forward to hearing from you

Time to Learn Torah

With an increase of all kinds of darkness in the world be it terror, weather, economy or something else causing you stress, it is time for an increase in warmth and light. No I am not advocating taking a trip to a desert island or some exotic cruise. I have something else in mind entirely. It is called opening up to the source of light that brings with it warmth, peace and all good things.

If you would like to learn Torah online for your own growth and enjoyment. If you have begun a path of return to Torah and need some guidance; or even if you are searching to learn Torah online for conversion we have a service that could be perfect for you. If you would love to learn Torah from the comfort of your own home and are open to learning online from a distance, then you have come to the right place.

Chessed Ve'Emet offers a range of services all geared to increasing Torah and Acts of Loving Kindness in the world. The Torah learning can be done individually or in small groups, online or in person. Learn at your own pace on a topic of your choice or a Sefer of your choice. If you have any questions, you are welcome to post a comment below. If you are ready to sign up for a Shiur or a series of Shiurim, please visit our website at

We look forward to hearing from you

Teach Your Children to Learn English, Hebrew and Kindness to Animals

What would you do if an animal that is not your pet ended up lost in your yard? Are you allowed to keep it? Would you know what to do?

Is it important for you that your children learn how to be kind to animals?

Would you like your children to have a good grasp of both English and Hebrew?

If you answer yes to any or all of these, then our children's book is just what you are looking for. "Tuvia Finds His Freedom" by Eliyahu and Shoshanah Shear, illustrated with photographs is available for sale in both English and Hebrew on, and a number of other online sites for selling books.

Purchase it online in either language or purchase both and provide your child the opportunity to gain vocabulary in both languages while enjoying a sweet story that demonstrates kindness to a lost animal.

If you have any questions, do be in touch.

If you would like a book reading with discussion for a group of children in your home, please be in touch for this too.

Have a wonderful, blessed day / evening

Bridal Gowns on the Move

Most of our Bridal Gowns are now in a spare room of someone in our area. As you can see in the image, there is not very much space. Behind the gowns is a sofa that they have no other place to put, to the left is other furniture of theirs. What can we say, to make this a successful extension to our work, we need to move to larger space.

So we are preparing a Sale. We are busy finding out what to call it. Would you believe there are so many types of sales and each has a different connotation?

We have many wonderful items for sale:

  • Books
  • Clothes
  • Baby items
  • Judaica
  • Dishes
  • Glasses
  • Make-up and lots more

We're busy pricing the items, many of our items are going on sale, need to move stock to reduce our moving expenses.

It's very exciting, come and be a part of it.
