Gratitude to Our Pet Dog

Someone asked if I have or have had pets. The answer is I have grown up with pets, mostly dogs.  Here is a little story about an incident that happened some years ago which leads to my being very grateful to our dog and to animals in general.

I have been debating whether to write it into one of my upcoming books. We will see.

Some years ago, I had very bad bronchitis and developed severe coughing fits. However, after each coughing fit, my chest got a bit tight and I was almost too tired to breath. This happened at night and my parents were asleep. Not wanting to disturb their sleep I wondered what to do.

I did not have to wait too long. You see, we had a 10 or 11 month old bull terrier puppy who heard my struggles and jumped onto the bed next to me. I was too tired and drained to push him off so I left him to cuddle next to me. Not long after he had positioned himself with his head on my chest, I began to cough. I was amazed at his response. He knocked his snout against my chest in just the right places, almost like he was doing chest physio.

He was spot on each time and his kindness and input helped me to stop coughing in a shorter period of time and to have the energy to breath a little better and a little easier after each bout of coughing. I am sure his intervention helped me to get through the night without any setbacks.

Our dog had never been trained on how to tap the chest of a sick person when they have a severe chest infection, but he instinctively knew what I needed. We had a rule not to let our dogs on the furniture. I am very grateful that on this occasion I had not had enough energy to discipline our big pup.

If you know anything about bull terriers, they are very, very strong dogs but have the softest nose. He used his strength correctly in a very kind and caring manner.

I have many pet stories I can share, but to begin with, this one shows the value of having a pet. They really do think and can be of great benefit to us, as humans and their owners or guardians whichever term you wish to use.

Do you have a pet? Share your pet story below. I'd love to hear what experience leads you to be grateful to having a pet or having had a pet.

Have a blessed day

How Our Book Came Into Being

Someone asked how we came to write our book: "Tuvia Finds His Freedom". Great question, here is our answer.

We were pondering a recurring problem of having to rescue little animals from kids being unkind and even cruel. Knowing there are no co-incidences, we wondered what positive action we could take. I posted a question on a mothers group and had mostly negative responses. However, some mom's agreed that education was necessary, still I was left with the dilemma of how to get the message to the kids.

We considered various options and then a friend asked about one of the nature photographs I had on my website. She liked the story behind the picture and so we decided to write it in a little more detail. At first I thought of doing a blog post to help to promote our pets and nature photography, but then I showed it to my husband and he loved the idea of a book. So we got to work.

With a love of both books and photographs, we began to improve the story I had written. My husband added and altered some of the text and then we sat down to select appropriate photographs. With my husbands wonderful computer work and a little effort our book soon began to take shape.

The photographs used in the book show the facial expressions of a special little animal. Buy the book to find out what kind of reptile he is, what kind of habitat is best suited to him and how he finds his freedom.

I hope the short story above explains how we came to write the book. If you have other questions, you are welcome to post your question in the comment section below.

Latest Comment on our New Book.

A friend sent us an email regarding our latest book release.

"Let me know how I can get the book, which stores will be selling it, or if it will be just available from you, in which case you have to mail it to the people, which is another expense.  Why don't you go to Feldheim, Pomerantz and other bookstores and ask them to sell it?  Will there be any place in The Mercaz or the North of Israel or only near Jerusalem? We know people who have  bookstore. Maybe they could sell it, too.

But you also have to advertise it (the cheapest way you can), perhaps in the various Alonei Parshat Hashavua (esp. those in English, i.e. Torah Tidbits) or in Bersheva, etc.

If people don't know about it, they can't buy it!!!" (S.P)

Our Answer:

Dear Friend
You are exactly right. There are many ways to promote a book and many outlets we still need to get our book to. This is exactly our reason for starting a crowdfundraiser, to assist us to come up with the means to get our book to as many appropriate places as possible. Please visit our crowdfundraiser and share the link with your friends. If you can make even a small contribution, every donation helps. If you can make a comment on our book on Amazon.com, this also helps with promoting our book. Also, if you have a blog or email list and can share information about our book with your friends, that is another way to help to get the word out.

Thank you so much for your interest and your valuable comments. Yes, as you stated, if people do not know about our book "Tuvia Finds His Freedom" they can not buy it.

This is another reason why we need the help of our friends to get the word out. Please join us in getting our message to children that animals are special and need to be treated with kindness and respect. Just as all of Creation is Special and deserves this too.

8 Acts of Kindness to Animals

There are times that the events recorded in the news are just too distressing. There are times that watching kids being unkind to animals, plants, young trees and the environment makes one wonder what hope there is for the future.

Then there are video's that show acts of kindness that help to restore one's faith, even if just a little.

The YouTube video that follows is one such video.

I hope you enjoy it.

New Addition to our Bayit Chadash Store

While our first children's book has just come out, we have not  forgotten our other projects. Today we share the exciting new addition to our Bayit Chadash store. As part of our stock, we have some Challah covers, table cloths, towels etc. Some of them, especially the towels or dish towels come without a package and can get marks from the dust. We are very excited to have a new addition to help to organize these items. The set of drawers seen in the image here is already full with the above items. We are ready for another one to add the linen and curtains into.

If anyone wishes to contribute towards our obtaining another set of drawers like this one, please be in touch. If you would like to come and purchase a gift from our Bayit Chadash store, you are bound to find something you will enjoy. We have wonderful items in stock and proceeds goes to assist our Bayit Chadash Gemach assisting orphans at the time they marry. We would love for the store to develop to also assist in growing and progressing in our full centre.

Each new addition is very exciting for us. Thank you for all those who appreciate our work and participate in any way

Help Needed for an Orphan Kallah

We have a new couple we are assisting through our Bayit Cadash Gemach. The Kallah has no father from before she was born. She is currently out of work and hopes to begin work after the Chatuna. The Chatan is from a family of 14 children. He works full-time but earns just above minimum wage, not enough to cover what is needed to begin their new home. For more about the couple please visit our website.

We have already met the couple and gave them a start of a few gifts. They still require:

For the wedding:
  • photography
  • videography
  • music
  • possibly someone to drive the Kallah to the Chuppah

For their new home:
  • towels
  • a set of pots
  • a set of dishes
  • Challah board
  • Challah cover
  • kitchenware
  • mixing machine
  • a new suit for the Chatan
  • a new shirt for the Chatan
  • a set of beds
If you can assist with any of these services or new item to begin their new home, please email us to Chessed Ve'Emet.

Thank you for your kindness
